Another small lot with tons of challenges. Close to the post road with a little noise. Surrounded by older well kept antique and colonial houses. No new constructions in site. And no sewer! Where can we fit the septic system on this small lot? But we did it. And turned this once 900 sqft cape into a 5000 sqft home on 4 floors into our rendition of a modern antique colonial. If that’s a thing. This was another situation where the existing home was over coverage and outside the setbacks. So challenging as it was we used the existing foundation to get the most home we could. We took down the original structure by hand. Carefully storing the 100-year-old sheathing and true 2x4s to incorporate into the house at a later date. As you’ll see in the photos we reused the original home’s materials and turned them into knit handmade doors, a one-off custom center island and exposed structural beams where we were able. Truly tying in the old with the new.
